OVERFLOW
OVERFLOW, 1985 (2006 reissue, CD mini LP)
An excellent Mexican Prog band from the 80's that recorded this lonely album, a really rare find.
Overflow first appeared on the Mexican rock scene at a time when several progressive rock bands in Mexico were making inroads into the recording world of excellent musical works. This trio of accomplished Mexican musicians left behind only this work, worthy of appreciation. It consists of eight tracks, most of them sung in English. The album demonstrates excellent instrumental work; its music is top-quality, with great creativity and imagination, and the influence of English progressive bands from the 1970s is noticeable, especially those of the symphonic progressive movement, primarily Genesis and Camel. Hints of Enid and Barclay James Harvest can also be heard, but always with the band's original touch. A very melodic and nostalgic album with a fresh mix of acoustic and electric sections. Interesting piano arrangements, emotive Camel-esque guitars. Pay attention to the instrumental "Unicornio," a beautiful song from any angle. It's not virtuosic, but it does display great musicality when they want, these Mexicans who gave us this very good debut film, only to then, sadly, disappear.
