Oxomaxoma is a RIO/Avant-prog band from Mexico. They were one of the first groups in Mexico to go beyond normal rock into the realm of experimentation. Their lineup consisted of Jose Alvarez (vocals), Arturo Romo (samples, percussion, keyboards), Victor Mendez (guitars) and Armando Velasco (programming and keyboards). The band also experimented with unorthodox instruments such as glass bottles, stones, pipes, springs and plastic toys mixed with samples from television broadcasts and film to achieve their unconventional sound. They also created their own instruments, like the trombatrón, a table with springs of an old electronic transformer mounted on to it for percussion, similar to several other avant-garde bands such as Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. Their style was somewhat comparable to that of bands like Einsturzende Neubaten and Plastic People, bringing together different musical styles ranging from, ethno-music, free jazz, rock, musique concrete and electronic to create a trance-like atmosphere. During the different phases that Oxomaxoma has gone through in the last forty years we have enjoyed making music and expressions with sound through exploring different genres and stages of experimentation, composition and discovery, with multiple collaborators, instrumentalists and many artists at different levels, always with a lot of fun and learning that has resulted in great achievements and satisfactions in each song, album or concert. Since 2014 a new journey began in which we approached a more electronic and digital sound, with powerful beats and with a more powerful character that led us to build different songs that not all appeared on our albums, but which did appear on various National and international compilations, so we decided to bring them together in a single album to share it with all of you: family, friends and followers who with their constant support and affection have driven us during each and every one of the stages that as a group we have crossed, that is why and much more we heartily leave you our appreciable affection and respect.
