Born in April of 1981, Adrián ZÁRATE (full name: Adrián de los Reyes ZÁRATE BECERRA) is one of the youngest talents in Mexican experimental music scene for the new millennium. He started playing drums at 13 (which remains his main instrument up to now), and at 16 he started to play piano and learn composition. Not long afterwards, he became interested in avant-garde chamber, fusion and free jazz, an interest that led him to be part of a few experimental rock and jazz bands through the years. By his early 20s, he was already an experienced composer for short movies and documentaries soundtracks: this kind of work is still an important part of his musical endeavors, expanding his composing labor in TV projects and open air art exhibitions, but there are many other sources in which he can deliver his restless creativity in ways that make him pleased and enthusiastic. One of them is his membership in the splendid progressive band SAENA (led by guitarist/keyboardist José Luis FERNÁNDEZ LEDESMA), of course, in the drummer's position.

As a solo artist, he released his debut album "De la A a la Z" via a joint effort of Luna Negra and Gazul, in late 2009. Through this album?s eclectic repertoire, which includes elements of prog rock and R.I.O. (plus an occasional rock'n'roll parody a-la ZAPPA), ZÁRATE reveals his views on avant-garde jazz and contemporary jazz-fusion quite expansively.
