MEXICAN ETNO-FUSION: A genre that emerged in Mexico during the 80's, when some progressive rock musicians began to use pre-Hispanic instruments with the intention of creating a new and unique type of music, which also rescued part of the identity of the ancient pre-Hispanic civilizations. These authors even worked on research to duplicate instruments that disappeared from the ancient cultures of Mexico, such as the Aztec or Maya, among many others. This type of music includes elements of Rock, Jazz, Electronic Music, Contemporary Classical, Ambient, Folk, etc.
Luis Pérez Ixoneztli is considered the initiator of the genre when he published his album Ipan In Xiktli Metzli (1981), an album where rock instruments are combined with pre-Hispanic instruments. Through his carrer Luis has collaborated with artists around the globe like Jon Anderson (Yes), Kitaro and Cirque du Soleil.
Some other authors of the genre include Antonio Zepeda, Humberto Álvarez, Grupo Tribu, José Navaro, Jorge Reyes, Alquimia, among many others.
